Takahiwai Marae
Update from Murray Pearson
Hi everyone
A quick update from me here in Brisbane.
Cancer survivor - First up, a happy success story to share - I finished my chemotherapy yesterday and the outlook is excellent. Just having survived pancreatic cancer has truly been a miracle. It makes one look afresh at the meaning and value (and temporary nature) of life, and really treasure those few who simply love and care about you as a person, without expecting anything in return. Truth is that, sadly, some of us do take life and loved ones for granted.
Ngawaka Haswell Grant Pirihi, MNZM - My Uncle Grant's investiture with the MNZM takes place on 25 August. Words cannot describe how proud I am to be his nephew. I'll be there to celebrate this most excellent occasion, one that deservedly honours the finest member of my family and brings great credit upon the Takahiwai people.
Anzac Day 2011 - I'm also looking forward greatly to our family and community gathering on the splendidly refurbished Marae next Anzac Day. A huge 'Well Done' to all who did an enormous amount of hard work to make the Marae what it is today - I look forward to seeing some new photos on the website some time.
Contact details - I invite all members of our wider Takahiwai 'family' in Brisbane and nearby to email this website (and Cc me at murrita@bigpond.net.au) and share contact details. I'd love to meet up for a cuppa and a chat (for example, I've just heard of a Takahiwai neighbour who lives a little over an hour away from me, who I haven't seen for maybe 40 years!) Who knows, there may be occasions in which we can help each other out - and surely, that should be part of life's nicer side!
Best wishes to all
Murray Pearson
